ElterngeldPlus was introduced on July 1, 2015, to simplify the compatibility of family and career for parents and enable them to return to work earlier. It also closes a gap in fairness. Previously, parents who chose to return to work quickly had to give up part of their parental allowance. Those who return to work soon after can now receive parental allowance for up to 28 months. Although the monthly subsidy is reduced to half, it is the same when calculated over 28 months. But these are not all the changes. Additionally, both benefits — parental allowance and ElterngeldPlus — can be combined, along with the partnership bonus. Innovations that repeatedly cause confusion and bewilderment in many places.
The introduction of ElterngeldPlus has led to great uncertainty among many parents and, of course, among the expectant parents of our customers, and it still does," says Verena Koch, head of childcare at famPLUS. The most common questions include those about the combination possibilities of Elterngeld and ElterngeldPlus. Many expectant parents find it difficult to imagine how to organize the 28 months after the birth of the child. Who should take parental leave and when? How long? Who returns to work with how many hours and when? It's good to be able to rely on experienced support in such situations. The famPLUS team is happy to support and advise (expectant) parents on these issues and questions and helps families navigate through the "jungle of parental allowance and parental leave.
Of course, we don't just offer advice to couples, but also to single parents. They too can combine both benefits. How this works, we'll gladly explain in a personal conversation," reports Koch.
For many other questions that can be answered relatively easily, such as: "When do I need to apply for parental allowance?" "How long can I take parental leave?" But also questions about "Who receives parental allowance or Parental Allowance Plus?" "Do you have to work part-time to apply for Parental Allowance Plus?" the famPLUS team has created a parent guide. In it, all questions are illustrated and answered precisely with concrete examples. Where necessary, links lead to further information. But topics like parental leave, maternity protection, and tax advantages are also covered in the parent guide.
