When the G. family moved from North Rhine-Westphalia to Herrenberg near Stuttgart in 2010, because the father, Hardy, took a job as a software consultant at IBM's Böblingen branch, they found themselves quite alone in a new environment. Their son was 3 years old at the time, and their daughter was only 3 months old. And finding full-day nursery or kindergarten spots was not something that could be quickly arranged.
Without support from her own family and given the empty market for professional childcare in Stuttgart, it was a real challenge to find friendly and reliable help for Mrs. G. to relieve her in everyday life with the little children. The family father Hardy is quite often on the move: "In my job, I advise across Europe and worldwide and travel a lot. We definitely needed someone to assist my wife with the household and childcare.
In the intranet of his employer IBM, Hardy G. read that there is the possibility to arrange professional childcare through famPlus. Hardy didn't hesitate and logged into the famPlus website to fill out the registration form. His professional verdict on this process is positive: "It was a simple, straightforward process.
And so, the G. family first came to a childcare service arranged by famPlus in 2010, which helped them manage well in the new environment with a baby and a toddler. However, the new Baden-Württemberg residents did not stop at that single assignment, because after a while the needs of the young family changed – Mrs. G.'s career was also not meant to stagnate.
When it came time in 2012 to organize Ms. G's professional start as a teacher in the new federal state of Baden-Württemberg, the 41-year-old father of the family once again turned to famPlus. This time, the G. family was under considerable time pressure: "We had to find someone by September 1st to obtain civil servant status in Baden-Württemberg, and it was important to my wife that her position was secured," recalls the Executive Solutions Architect.
Parallel to the selection process by famPlus, family father Hardy looked around the childcare provider's website, where there is also a database with profiles of the candidates. "Ultimately, though," the software consultant recalls, "I preferred to leave it to the professionals and see whom they would suggest to me.
Shortly after he had filled out his personal requirements profile, the father of the family says, a "very pleasant and helpful lady from famPlus in Munich" contacted him to discuss everything further with Hardy G. "We were contacted very quickly and soon had a list of two to four candidates," summarizes the 41-year-old software consultant. Two of them, he reports, "disappeared relatively quickly," because there were different ideas about the collaboration. But the fourth candidate, who was also the only one the G. family met in person, was then the right one.
The lady, a woman in her early 50s, was then employed by us for around a year on a 400 € basis," said the father of the family. For three days a week, the G. family had this help come to the house to enable Mrs. G. to attend conferences, prepare and follow up on lessons, and fulfill her professional obligations in the first place.
Then," says Hardy G. quite openly, "we decided for financial reasons that my wife would prefer to stay home for now. At the moment, we are managing quite well with the kindergarten opening hours until 1:30 PM." What does the software consultant say after two childcare placements through famPlus? He would gladly use the famPlus service again at any time should the need arise, says the 41-year-old looking to the future, "It's nice that such a service exists. The service was friendly and conscientious.
